1879-CC GSA NGC MS65 Capped Die #17282

What more can I say??? A monster of all monsters. This is the rarest GSA Morgan Silver Dollar. It was part of the original GSA Carson City Hoard that was sold at auction in the 70's. The history of this coin is just unbelievable. The coin itself is a gem Morgan. Blast white and fully struck. it is the capped die reverse, which is now considered much scarcer than the normal die in high grade. Van Allen and Mallis examined many of the GSA hoard Morgan's, and a significant number of 1879-CC's. They projected that 15% of the hoard was the capped die variety, and today's population reports certainly proves that out. As the public get more educated on this coin, they will realize just how scare it really is. Leroy Van Allen and George Mallis wrote in thier VAM book that only 3,608 1879-CC's were ever sold through the GSA auctions. They were all sold in February of 1974 at a minimum bid price of $300. They sold out immediately. This coin has a population of 1...yes 1 with none finer. If you want the top Registry Set, you must own this coin.
